The Siberian Cat

The Siberian cat is an imposing cat that seems very sweet and is now considered a real domestic cat, despite the fact that it has a reputation in Siberia as a «wild» cat. He is a very sociable feline who can adapt easily and who gets along very well with other cats, dogs and even children.

Origin and History
The origin of the Siberian cat belongs to our century! Siberian was first described in 1925 among the mid-length cats of the Caucasus. It is thought to be a cross between the domestic and wild cats of the Ural Mountains and the Central Siberian Plateau. The breed was recently discovered and imported into Germany by two breeders in 1989: Hans and Betti Schulz. Today there are many examples of Siberians who have become great champions. It was in the United States that he conquered the Guinness of the winners by obtaining the well-known title of American Main Coon.

Character and Ability
They are truly proud representatives of Russia! Strong and massive, they have beautiful proportions and are perfect for families with one or more family members with allergies. Indeed, not all Siberian cats are born equal and about 50% of them have a lower Fel D1 allergen level than those of a normal cat. It is therefore a cat very sought after by those who have allergy problems.

In addition to its anti-allergenic abilities, the Siberian cat is an animal that is well suited to family life, regardless of whether you have children or not, whether you are an active couple or rather a sedentary type! You will find that this cat’s adaptability is simply remarkable!

This confident cat easily feels safe, is less fearful than some others and does not show himself constantly on the defensive. Very cuddly, he likes to get caught and be flattered in contrast to what we often hear about cats. Its beautiful hair is really very soft and of splendid color. There are two types of Siberian cats: the traditional, usually tiger-colored, and the Neva Masquerade, pointed white.

Health
For maintenance, one brush per week is sufficient, except during moulting periods when it is better to brush more frequently to eliminate dead hair. It is important to emphasize the areas where knots can form: behind the ears, between the legs, the chest and the buttocks.

The average price for breeders is about $2,000, but can be up to $3,800 if you are looking for a kitten that has been tested for the lowest Fel D1 allergen level.
